Talon 1000XS-4 Features
Powerful 999cc twin-cylinder engine
Unleash ample power with the 999cc liquid-cooled inline twin engine. It produces big torque, high horsepower, and responsiveness across the rpm range, the result of unmatched refinement and reliability.
Unicam® cylinder head design
Our engine's compact design, based on the proven Unicam® cylinder head from our championship-winning CRF450R motocrosser, allows us to position it for optimal weight distribution and ground clearance.
Roller rocker arms
Roller-tip rocker arms in the valve train reduce engine friction, improve efficiency, and increase power output at higher revs.
High-lift, long-duration camshaft
Giving the engine a camshaft with a higher lift and longer duration improves its performance. This enhances the powerplant's breathing, resulting in more power throughout the rev range.
46mm throttle bore size
Our engineers gave the engine twin 46mm bores for better airflow and breathing, complementing the potent camshaft specs. You’ll feel the difference when you hit the throttle.
High-flow fuel injectors
More air plus more fuel equals more power. With the hot cam, throttle body, and high-flow fuel injectors, the engine is the total package for total off-road performance.
Engine air intake
To ensure your engine gets the cleanest air possible, we positioned the air filter high over the engine in the rear and the air intake off to the side.
Dual-pin offset crankshaft
By offsetting the cylinders’ two crankpins by 270 degrees, the engine delivers a wide powerband and abundant torque, while counterbalancers help keep everything running smoothly.
Tuned exhaust
An equally tuned exhaust system is necessary for improved intake and fuel delivery. This system produces beautiful mechanical exhaust notes and ensures smooth and even engine power delivery.
High-capacity cooling system
When it comes to challenging terrains like rock crawling, deserts, dunes, and high altitudes, your side-by-side's cooling can be put to the test. That's why we equipped all of our Talons with a high-capacity system.
Oil-jet-cooled pistons
Squirting oil onto the underside of the pistons helps them run cooler and seal better. This combination allows the pistons to live longer and helps the engine make more power.
Semi-dry-sump lubrication
Preventing oil from reaching the crankshaft eliminates windage losses, while the semi-dry-sump design ensures better engine lubrication and longer life, especially in extreme driving conditions.
Rubber-mounted engine and exhaust
In addition to the suspension, we rubber-mounted the engine and exhaust system to insulate the cabin against excessive vibration. We also gave the engine four mounts to add strength under high loads.
FOX Live Valve 2.5 Shocks
The 1000XS-4 FOX Live Valve model incorporates FOX shocks that constantly change their compression damping (each shock independently, in real-time), giving you less body roll, a smoother ride, and more resistance to bottoming.
FOX QS3 Shocks
The standard Talon 1000XS-4 features FOX Podium 2.0 shocks in front and 2.5s in the rear, with QS3 quick adjustors. The adjustors are intuitive, with three distinct settings that make tuning your suspension to the terrain or your driving style easy.
Independent front suspension
The Dual A-arm suspension gives you 14.6 inches (14.4 inches –FOX Live Valve) of front travel. Pair that with the stellar ground clearance, and you understand why they handle rough terrain so well.
3-link rear suspension
On the standard model, a 3-link trailing-arm rear suspension is one of the secrets to its superior handling, while a generous 15 inches of rear-wheel travel helps give you a smooth ride and superior control.
High-performance disc brakes
The front and rear brakes feature high-performance 250mm discs, with 34mm twin-piston calipers in the front and 34mm single-piston calipers in the rear. Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) optimizes braking power on both ends.
Long wheelbase
The 116.4-inch wheelbase contributes to this sport side-by-side’s tracking, giving you a super-smooth ride and excellent control in whoops and rough terrain
Front/rear weight balance
A slight rear weight bias works best for optimal sport driving. This is why we set up the Talons with 44% of their weight over the front and 56% over the rear.
Dual-rate springs
The suspension springs provide soft initial travel but resist bottoming, delivering a comfortable ride and supreme control—the best of both worlds.
Skid plates
Generous skid plate protection armors vulnerable undercarriage and suspension components. Want even more protection? Be sure to check out our accessories lineup.
Front bumper
The standard front bumper is designed to offer some vehicle protection while still allowing the vehicle to slide smoothly over obstacles in rough conditions.
Recovery hook point
Built into the chassis design, this attaching point makes securing the bike for transport easy and hooking up a recovery strap when your buddy with some other brand side-by-side gets stuck.
Automatic six-speed DCT
Our automatic Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) boasts a class-leading gear-driven setup, giving you manual or automatic control. It has efficient power delivery, true engine braking, and superior performance to belt-driven CVTs.
i-4WD
All Talons showcase the second generation of our exclusive i-4WD system. Think “i” for “intelligent” because that’s exactly what it is. An industry-first brake-traction control system that maintains front-wheel traction even if one wheel wants to spin.
Paddle shifting
Steering column-mounted paddle shifters add performance and fun. In Manual mode, they let you shift without taking your hands off the steering wheel; in Automatic mode, they let you override the current gear.
Electric power steering
EPS helps reduce bump steer through rocky and rutted terrain while providing the right feedback for sport driving.
Oversized CV joints
The robust CV joints, sturdy propshafts, and durable U-joints are designed to endure the stresses generated during low-speed rock crawling that cause driveline failures in many other side-by-sides.
High/low subtransmission
You get the necessary torque in all six gears with a 42-percent gear reduction between High and Low. This comes in handy when rock crawling or scaling hills.
Hill Start Assist
Hill Start Assist prevents rollback when transitioning from brake to accelerator. It also works on downhill grades.
Advanced Transmission Logic
The brain of the DCT, Advanced Transmission Logic, senses how you drive and adapts. Relaxed drivers get earlier shifts, while for sportier drivers, it will hold each gear longer. And when going downhill, you get true engine braking.
Center propshaft bearing
Since the vehicle has a longer wheelbase than our two-seater models, it also has a longer propshaft. Therefore, we install a special center bearing to make it stronger and smoother.
Propshaft damper
One example of Honda's attention to detail is the cam-type damper on the propshaft. This damper reduces vibrations, prolongs the lifespan of driveline parts, and provides a smoother ride.
Connected drive feeling
Compared to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), the positive gear-driven Automatic Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) provides a significantly more engaging driving experience on your side-by-side.
Honda durability
Our DCT boasts steel gears instead of drive belts or a torque converter, making it as durable and efficient as a manual gearbox.
Built in the U.S.A.
The Talon lineup is made in America, and parts are sourced domestically and globally. The parts are assembled at our Timmonsville, South Carolina plant.
Painted body
The painted body parts are more resistant to scratching and look better, creating a stunning first impression.
Aerodynamic roof
The specially designed full-coverage roof diverts rainwater from occupants and is aerodynamic when transporting the vehicle in either direction on your trailer.
Painted frame and ROPS
A unique, color-matched painted frame and Roll-Over Protection Structure make it stand out and ensure safety wherever you go.
Stadium seating
Welcome to the best seats in the house! The rear "Stadium Seating" sits nearly three inches higher and two inches closer to each other than the fronts, providing a better view for passengers.
Driver/passenger protection
Safety is the top priority. The standard roof and hard doors with side nets protect from debris. Three-point seatbelts and emergency locking retractors provide added safety.
Adjustable driver's seat
Designed to fit a wide range of operators, the adjustable driver’s seat locks positively in position without wobble, helping make you feel more connected to the vehicle.
Tilt wheel
A tilt steering wheel makes high-performance driving even more comfortable. Additionally, the tilt-wheel function makes getting in and out easier.
Twin-level front passenger footrests
Passengers have plenty of legroom, even for those over six feet tall and wearing bulky boots. The two-level footrests allow for solid bracing on rough terrain or relaxation while cruising.
Rear passenger legroom
The rear seats offer ample space for adults, with plenty of legroom, elbow room, and headroom to fit a full-size helmet comfortably.
Comfortable seats
Our industry-leading seats feature a wide seatback and an even wider seat bottom. They are designed to be the most comfortable while providing tons of lateral support. Additionally, they are compatible with four-point harnesses.
Integrated inner door handle
All four doors feature an integrated inner door handle, which demonstrates the Talons' commitment to comfort and convenience.
Large cargo bed
The cargo bed is raised for safety and accessibility and has a 299-pound capacity with six tie-down points. It can easily accommodate a large 45-quart cooler with room to spare.
Door nets
Door nets are now standard equipment. They can be quickly and easily latched and unlatched to protect you from the elements.
Generous, secure cup holders
Each seat has two cup holders that can hold a 30-ounce off-road standard or other travel cups.
Flag mount
Designers at Honda pay attention to every detail, including the fully integrated flag mount.
