Talon 1000X-4 Features

Powerful 999cc twin-cylinder engine
Experience unparalleled power with our liquid-cooled 999cc Unicam® inline-twin engine, boasting high horsepower, big torque, and unmatched refinement and reliability throughout the rpm range.
Unicam® cylinder head design
Using the same proven Unicam® cylinder head design found in our championship-winning CRF450R motocrosser helps make the engine more compact, allowing us to position it for optimal weight distribution and ground clearance.
High-lift camshaft
Giving the engine a camshaft with a higher lift and longer duration improves its performance. This enhances the powerplant's breathing, resulting in more power throughout the rpm range.
Roller rocker arms
Roller-tip rocker arms in the valve train reduce engine friction, improve efficiency, and increase power output at higher revs.
Large throttle bore
Our engineers gave the engine twin 46mm throttle bores for better breathing and airflow, complementing the potent camshaft specs. You'll feel and hear the difference when you hit the loud pedal.
High-flow fuel injectors
More air plus more fuel equals more power. With the hot cam, throttle body, and high-flow fuel injectors, the engine is the total package for off-road performance.
Semi-dry-sump lubrication
Preventing oil from reaching the crankshaft eliminates windage losses, while the semi-dry-sump design ensures better engine lubrication and longer life, especially in extreme driving conditions.
Engine air intake
To ensure your engine gets the cleanest air possible, we positioned the air filter high over the engine in the rear and the air intake off to the side.
Dual-pin offset crankshaft
By offsetting the cylinders’ two crankpins by 270 degrees, the engine delivers a wide powerband and abundant torque, while counterbalancers help keep everything running smoothly.
Tuned exhaust
An equally tuned exhaust system is necessary for improved intake and fuel delivery. This exhaust system produces beautiful mechanical exhaust notes and ensures smooth and even engine power delivery.
High-capacity cooling system
When it comes to challenging terrains like rock crawling, deserts, dunes, and high altitudes, your side-by-side's cooling can be put to the test. That's why we equipped all of our Talons with a high-capacity system.
Oil-jet pistons
Squirting oil onto the underside of the pistons helps them run cooler and seal better. This combination allows the pistons to live longer and helps the engine make more power.
Rubber-mounted engine and exhaust
In addition to the suspension, we rubber-mounted the engine and exhaust system to insulate the cabin against excessive vibration. We also gave the engine four mounts to add strength under high loads.
FOX Live Valve 2.5 Shocks
The FOX Live Valve model features cutting-edge semi-active suspension that utilizes FOX's adaptive valve technology, dynamically adjusting compression damping for each wheel in real-time. Enjoy reduced body roll, smoother terrain navigation, and superior resistance to bottoming.
Independent front suspension
Dual A-arm suspension gives you 14.4 inches of travel in the front. Pair that with the stellar ground clearance, and you begin to understand why they handle rough terrain so well.
3-link rear suspension
A 3-link trailing-arm rear suspension is one of the secrets to its precise handling, while a generous 15 inches of rear-wheel travel helps give you a smooth ride and superior control.
Shorter wheelbase
The X-models have a shorter 116.4-inch wheelbase, which contributes to this side-by-side’s agility and excellent handling in rough terrain.
Weight bias
For optimal sport driving, a slight rear weight bias works best. This is why we set up the Talons with 44% of their weight over the front and 56% over the rear.
Dual-rate springs
The suspension springs provide a soft initial travel but resist bottoming, delivering a comfortable ride and supreme control - the best of both worlds.
Electric Power Steering
Honda's Electric Power Steering (EPS) technology is continually improving. It eliminates bump steer, reduces fatigue, and provides added assistance in 4WD, lower speeds, and rough conditions. The system is specially tuned for sport-driving, and there are no belts or pumps to slip, break, or leak.
High-performance disc brakes
High-performance brakes feature 250mm discs at all four corners, squeezed by 34mm twin-piston calipers up front and 34mm single-piston calipers out back. Our Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) optimizes front and rear braking power.
Automatic six-speed DCT
Our automatic Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) boasts a class-leading gear-driven setup, giving you manual or automatic control. It has efficient power delivery, true engine braking, and superior performance to belt-driven CVTs.
Advanced Transmission Logic
The brain of the DCT, Advanced Transmission Logic, senses how you drive and adapts. Relaxed drivers get earlier shifts, while for sportier drivers, it will hold each gear longer. And when going downhill, you get true engine braking.
Honda durability
Our DCT boasts steel gears instead of drive belts or a torque converter, making it as durable and efficient as a manual gearbox.
Connected drive feeling
Compared to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), the positive gear-driven Automatic Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) provides a significantly more engaging driving experience on your side-by-side.
i-4WD
All Talons showcase the second generation of our exclusive i-4WD system. Think “i” for “intelligent” because that’s precisely what it is. An industry-first brake-traction control system that helps maintain front-wheel traction even if one wheel wants to spin.
2WD/4WD shift on the fly
Paddle shifting
Steering column-mounted paddle shifters add performance and fun. They let you shift without taking your hands off the steering wheel, and in Automatic mode, they let you override the current gear.
High/low subtransmission
You get the necessary torque in all six gears with a 42-percent gear reduction between High and Low. This comes in handy when rock crawling or scaling hills.
Hill Start Assist
Hill Start Assist prevents rollback when transitioning from brake to accelerator. It also works on downhill grades.
Oversized CV joints
The robust CV joints, sturdy propshafts, and durable U-joints are designed to endure the stresses generated during low-speed rock crawling that cause driveline failures in many other side-by-sides.
Center propshaft bearing
Since the vehicle has a longer wheelbase than our two-seater models, it also has a longer propshaft. Therefore, we install a special center bearing to make it stronger and smoother.
Driveline damper
One example of Honda's attention to detail is the cam-type damper on the propshaft. This damper reduces vibrations, prolongs the lifespan of driveline parts, and provides a smoother ride.
Engine location
Skid plate
Off-road driving can be challenging, and rough terrain can be unforgiving. We offer generous skid protection and a wide range of accessories to help protect vulnerable undercarriage and suspension components.
Front bumper
The standard front bumper offers more vehicle coverage than some other side-by-sides and is designed to slide smoothly over obstacles in rough conditions while providing good protection.
Recovery hook mounting point
Built into the chassis design, this attaching point makes it easy to secure for transport and hook up a recovery strap when your buddy with some other brand side-by-side gets stuck.
Built in the U.S.A.
The Talon lineup is made in America, and parts are sourced domestically and globally. The parts are assembled at our Timmonsville, South Carolina plant.
Painted body parts
Painted body parts resist scratches and look better. There's no need to slow down for small brushes on the trail. See for yourself—they look great!
Durable frame finish
Your new frame is fully treated inside and out with an electrostatic surface application during manufacturing and then powder-coated to resist chipping. It will look great for a long time.
Aerodynamic roof
The specially designed full-coverage roof diverts rainwater from occupants and is aerodynamic when transporting the vehicle in either direction on your trailer.
Stadium seating
Welcome to the best seats in the house: Because they sit nearly three inches higher and two inches closer to each other than the fronts, the rear "Stadium Seating" lets passengers see more. Enjoy the view!
Mud and splash protection
Our Talon lineup provides excellent protection against mud and splashes with full-coverage doors and sealed passenger compartment openings.
Driver/passenger protection
Safety is our top priority. The standard roof and hard doors with side nets help protect from debris and keep occupants inside. Three-point seatbelts and emergency locking retractors provide added safety.
Occupant Protection Structure
Comfortable seats
Our industry-leading seats feature a wide seatback and an even wider seat bottom. They are designed to be the most comfortable while providing tons of lateral support. Additionally, they are compatible with four-point harnesses.
Adjustable driver's seat
Designed to fit a wide range of operators, the adjustable driver’s seat locks positively in position without wobble, helping make you feel more connected to the vehicle.
Tilt wheel
A tilt steering wheel makes high-performance driving even more comfortable. Additionally, the tilt-wheel function makes getting in and out easier.
Twin-level front passenger footrests
Passengers have plenty of legroom, even for those over six feet tall and wearing bulky boots. The two-level footrests allow for solid bracing on rough terrain or relaxation while cruising.
Rear passenger legroom
The rear seats offer ample space for adults, with plenty of legroom, elbow room, and headroom to fit a full-size helmet comfortably.
Integrated inner door handle
All four doors feature an integrated inner door handle, which demonstrates the Talon's commitment to comfort and convenience.
Passenger T grab handle
Large cargo bed
The cargo bed is raised for safety and accessibility and has a 299-pound capacity with six strong tie-down points. It can easily accommodate a large 45-quart cooler with room to spare.
Door nets
Door nets are now standard equipment and can be quickly and easily latched and unlatched to help protect you from the elements and keep you inside.
Secure cup holders
Two cup holders in the center console and one in each door can hold a 30-ounce off-road standard-size travel cup.
