    • Supercross.com / Honda Racing’s Andrew Short is most definitely a sportsman and a brilliant rider. He’s modest, soft-spoken a family man and anything but unapproachable. He’s also super consistent and blazingly fast. Short knows that one of the secrets of ending the year with a wheelbarrow full of championship points is to finish every race and be consistent. Jeremy McGrath also knows how to be consistent and win races. The all time Supercross race winner and 7 time Supercross champion has joined forces with Larry Brooks, Supercross.com and Honda to form a new team for 2012. With the knowledge of McGrath and Brooks in his corner Andrew is looking to have his best year to date in both Supercross and Nationals. “Training for Supercross and Motocross is completely different,” says Short. “Supercross is more of a sprint, more high-end. You have to have really quick reflexes.

Riding outdoors is more physically demanding. “The thing I like most about racing Supercross is the rhythm and flow of the race. It’s not so wide open and pure speed. It’s a whole other animal from outdoors.”
Short’s work ethic reminds you of another legendary Honda champion, Jeff Stanton, also a quiet rider who won his titles by hard work and a never-quit attitude.

“I think luck has something to do with it—with any racing—and what we do is obviously a dangerous sport, but it’s in a controlled environment too,” says Short. “I try to stay as healthy as possible off the bike by exercising and working out, so when you do crash you can recoup quicker and recover a little faster.

I think in racing you’re only as good as your last race,” says Short. “One day when I’m done racing, I might look back and reflect on what I accomplished, but until then I’m just trying to keep my head down and achieve what I can. Motocross is a very humbling sport. You always have to treat it with respect, and you always have to give it 100 percent.”

Short seems perfectly matched to his Honda CRF450R. In his hands and under his guidance, the 450 floats over an MX or SX course like a feather. He and his CRF450 seem to get along particularly well.

“The 2012
bike is awesome, I am really looking forward to competing in Supercross and the outdoor nationals this year!”
