The little town of Richfield, Utah, sits nestled in a high valley flanked by towering mountain ranges. Honda unveiled its new CRF450 Rally model Dakar racer at the 2012 International Motorcycle, Scooter and Bike Fair in Cologne, Germany. The world debut of this production-based race machine centers on its entry in the Dakar Rally, which will be held in January 2013.

Honda star Justin Barcia is headed overseas to race as a member of the U.S. team that will compete at the FIM Motocross of Nations on September 30 in Lommel, Belgium.

So why bring back the 250L now? Because, according to Honda, prospective buyers are more reluctant than ever to part with there harder than ever-earned cash these days and when they do they want to get the most for their money. They want a bike that's inexpensive, economical, multifunctional and, of course, fun to ride. And Honda feels that a middleweight dual sport bike, like the CRF250L, provides all these things.

All of you who put crayon to paper over the last few years to tell Honda to go back to building simple, inexpensive little bikes like the ones that helped make the company what it is today have gotten your wish.
