Honda signed up as the title sponsor of the Daytona Supercross in 1991: 22 years ago this year. As long ago as that sounds, Honda fielded a Pro motocross team for the first time in 1973: 40 years ago! Given Honda’s win record on the rough and tumble man-made Daytona track, it absolutely makes sense to call the race “The Daytona Supercross by Honda.” Honda has more Supercross Class (originally the 250cc two-stroke class, and now the 450cc four-stroke class) wins at Daytona than any other brand, but the legend goes deeper than those numbers.

Just shy of his 35th birthday and three races into his 19th year of pro competition, racing great Kevin Windham is calling it a career. For 13 of those seasons he raced aboard Hondas. During this incredible career-long span, KW lined up at the starting line for Supercross finals 207 times—including an unmatched run of 102 consecutive starts. His total number of starts stands second only to his GEICO Honda team manager, Mike LaRocco.

Honda has done a bang up job with its F6B. It still exhibits some of the same characteristics as the Wing, from all-day comfort to its potent power delivery to its road-hugging chassis, but the riding experience is much more spirited thanks to the lower COG and sheddin’ of weight. It has enough power to launch you off the start line in a kinetic burst, it hugs the pavement when the road snakes up, and its brakes more than get the job done when it’s time to scrub off speed.

It’s impossible to come up with a definition for motorcycle touring. There is no one definition for touring on two wheels because there are so many different ways to satisfy motorcycle wanderlust.

In a move to foster creativity, Honda encourages its associates to think outside the box. Perhaps no two machines embody this tribute to creativity more than two purpose-built racers created in the back rooms at American Honda: the 1984 RS750 flat-tracker and 1991 XR680RN Baja Monster.
